ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: 

We have been focused on providing tax breaks for outside companies to develop here, while local businesses are struggling to survive due to the economic conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Onondaga County needs to be working with these existing businesses and provide them with resources that ensure their continued existence.

EQUITABLE TAX BREAKS:

In 2019, Onondaga County issued a tax break of $71 million to Amazon for a warehouse distribution center in Clay. The $71 million is the one of the largest tax breaks that an Amazon fulfillment center has received in the entire country. When elected, I will work with our state and local officials to restructure the role of Industrial Development Agencies, who issue the majority of these large tax breaks.

PRIORITIZING TAXPAYER INTERESTS:

I will evaluate each piece of legislation to ensure that the taxpayers are benefitting more than anyone else. At the end of the day, your tax dollars should be working for you, and no one else. 

BETTER LIVESTREAM OF LEGISLATIVE MEETINGS:

The current county livestreaming process is inadequate. At present, a laptop is placed in the back of the legislative chambers, which doesn't provide a clear visual and audio reception. We must find a way to improve the format for taxpayers that wish to be involved with the legislative process.

SCHEDULE MEETINGS TO ACCOMODATE WORKING PEOPLE:

In general, the County Legislature meets on a weekday afternoon. For the taxpayers that work during the day, this is inconvenient. We need to pursue every avenue that will increase civic engagement, and not disenfranchise people. When elected, I will propose a change to the county charter that will provide improved accessibility to better serve the working people of Onondaga County.

REDISTRICTING:

Politicians should not be allowed to designate which areas they want in their districts, nor have any input regarding the process. In order to maintain equitable representation for taxpayers, this task can be facilitated and reviewed by an independent committee before becoming law. I will work with other legislators to ensure an impartial result.

ATTRACTING YOUNG PEOPLE TO ONONDAGA COUNTY: The amount of prospective young taxpayers leaving Onondaga County is extremely disappointing. We need to offer them a reason to stay here by creating, investing, and promoting opportunities within our county that will ensure a thriving economic future.

IMPROVING COUNTY INFRASTRUCTURE:

It is no secret that Onondaga County has very outdated infrastructure. I would actively pursue grants and other opportunities by maintaining contact with our representatives at the state and federal levels to improve upon this issue.

All local elected officials should have only one priority: the taxpayers of this county. I will always make myself available to you for questions, concerns, ideas, and ultimately seek to better the lives of county taxpayers.
